EPD investigates two deaths, including one of a 16 year old found at a Broadway hotel

On February 8, 2017, at about 12:56 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to a hotel room on the 3500 block of Broadway for the report of a disturbance.  Officers made entry into the room and found an unconscious female.  Lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated by police, fire, and ambulance personnel, but were unsuccessful.  The female, age 16 from Eureka, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Her identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

At about 6:12 a.m., Eureka Police responded to Waterfront Drive and Commercial Street for the report of a body floating in the bay near a dock.  Employees from a nearby business had located the body and secured it until police arrived.  The body was recovered from the bay and appears to have been a male in his 30's.  The identity of the male is currently unknown.

Foul play is not suspected in either incident and the investigations are ongoing.  Autopsies will be scheduled to determine the causes of death.  Anyone with information regarding either incident is asked to call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4060.
