Marci Kitchen preliminary tentatively continued to March 20; 11 witnesses for DA, 5 day estimate

Judge Joyce Hinrichs found good cause and granted the continuance requested by the defense, again.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees subbed in for DDA Stacey Eads who is prosecuting the case. He said the People opposed the continuance and had complied with Marcy's law.

Mr. Benjamin Okin, one of Kitchen's attorneys, appeared on her behalf and on behalf of her other attorney, Mr. Patrik Griego.

Mr. Okin told Judge Hinrichs that the defense had received a lot of discovery and needed to process it send out for lab work.

Intervention is March 16 at 9:45 and the preliminary is March 20 at 9:45. If that needs to change, defense will notify the court since one trial court is being set aside for the entire week of March 20 for this case.

People intend to present 11 witnesses and an estimate of five days was given by both parties.

  1. Sadly this will take a couple years literally before any action starts happening. My friends were killed by a DUI driver in Feb 2015 and he is still filing for continuances! Supposedly his prelim is suppose to happen in Jan 2017. As the defendants in these cases run free the families of the passed are still waiting for justice.

  2. I am afraid that this case will drag on forever too. Why Marci would even want to drag it out forever is beyond comprehension. The only thing left in her life (of importance) is her son. She needs to set an example for him. Plead GUILTY - do her time - write him lots of letters and then come home being a better person.
John, what is the purpose of the Intervention? What do they discuss during that?

    1. Anonymous @3:39, the simplest explaination for intervention in Humboldt is an informal meeting between attorneys and the Judge in a closed courtroom.
