Ivan Martinez Chavarin's case made the headline in 2015; guilty verdict for most counts in 2016 case; he changes plea to guilty in 2015 case

A jury came back with a  verdict of guilty in his 2016 case in the Ivan Martinez Chavarin case except for Count 2 and they did not find the special allegation true.

Chavarin had another 2015 case in which he entered a change of plea.

Sentencing for both cases is on October 6 at 4 p.m. in Courtroom 2.

The 2016 case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Jackie Harkness. Conflict Counsel's Mr. Marek Reavis represented Chavarin.

Jury selection going on for Ivan Martinez Chavarin, one of the alleged suspects where Fortuna victim claimed he was chased and tied up

In Courtroom 2, jury selection is currently going on for Ivan Martinez Chavarin.

This is the Fortuna case where the alleged victim claimed he was tied up, chased and threatened by people with firearms at his residence.

Chavarin looks nothing like his booking photo. Dressed in a suit, clean shaven with glasses, he sat next to his attorney, Conflict Counsel's Mr. Marek Reavis. Deputy District Attorney Jackie Harkness is prosecuting. Judge Marilyn Miles is the trial judge.

The co defendant, Tara Groswird's case,  was dismissed before preliminary hearing on January 12, 2016.

  1. In case you hadn't made the connection, Ivan Martinez is a cousin to Fernando Martinez, about whose case I asked you to look into last week. Fernando was the unidentified 17 year old also arrested in this case. Fernando is a main player in the Eureka/Fortuna Norte HOGN gang and I think it is very important to track when and whether he is out of custody because by his own admission he will most certainly continue to commit violent crimes throughout the region. I know Fernando had a sentencing hearing on Oct 5 but can't find any news regarding its outcome.
