EPD Press Release (at @12:55 this afternoon):

On 07/06/16, at about 12:18 a.m., Eureka Police Department officers were dispatched to a
reported stabbing that had just occurred at 1st and “C” streets. Officers arrived and located
an adult male victim sitting on a nearby bench. The victim had sustained what appeared to be
two stab wounds to the upper torso area. Medical aid arrived and the victim was soon
transported to a local hospital. No witnesses were located.
The victim told officers he was sitting on a bench in the C Street Market Square. A group of
five juveniles were setting off firecrackers nearby. The juveniles approached the victim and
asked if he “wanted some dynamite.” The victim said that he didn’t want any and some kind
of verbal altercation ensued between them. This was followed by a physical altercation
reportedly involving the victim and most, if not all, of the juveniles. During this time, one of the
juveniles apparently stabbed the victim twice with an unknown type weapon. The juveniles
then fled the scene, possibly eastbound on 1st street. Officers checked the area and were
unable to locate anyone matching the description of the suspects. The victim was released to
the hospital for treatment of his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this
time.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Eureka Police
Department at (707) 441-4060.
