TS oopsie! There is a Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting this Tuesday

The TS is incorrect.

There is a Board of Supervisors meeting this Tuesday. I just checked with Supervisor Rex Bohn, Supervisor Virginia Bass and Supervisor Ryan Sundberg.

This is after I checked the agenda posted online.

  1. Maybe, but usually they don't meet on the fifth Tuesday of a month. The definitive check would be if there was an agenda posted.

    1. Jim, there is an agenda posted. And, checking with a Supervisor who needs to be there is the double confirmation.

Just because they don't meet, usually on the fifth Tuesday is no reason for the TS to just print what they do every month. Why is it that you and some others despite instances pointed out seem to think so called mainstream media is above making errors.

This isn't the last time and it won't be the first. I check the agenda every week and if it is on a day, there isn't a,meeting, I check with the clerk.

  2. Well, you're making the assumption that I read the TS... As to screwing up, having been involved with the media in one fashion or another for some 40 years, I have seen some legendary mistakes in the 'mainstream media" that would put a third grader to shame.

  3. I did not make any such assumption Jim, but responded to your assumption that I did not check the agenda online. I have been a part of media, national for 30 years, locally about 14.

We have some excellent reporters here, some excellent media sources. Others that have simply been around for a while with no competition.

I think advertisers and readers deserve basic, accurate information. It is not that hard to make a phone call or check online before printing information. There are still people whose only source of information is the newspaper. We have only one daily.

We have way too many media outlets locally, the ones that are smaller and independent do a better job with less or one staff member. I would like to see quality and shoe leather reporting being supported by advertisers and readers and demand more from each media source.

  4. Any reason why you didn't check with Supervisor Mark Lovelace (or Fennell I guess) as well? Enquiring minds want to know! Hi Jim, by the way.

    1. Allan, Supervisor Fennell is busy campaigning and I did not want to bother her. I contacted the Supervisors I know well, and those I know will contact me promptly, even on a weekend. Are you trying to stir trouble, Allan?!

  5. Allan, I take it that you also ask certain other media why they only interview Supervisor Mark Lovelace? Enquiring minds want to know that too ☺

  6. Hey Allan.

When I first moved up here, the TS wanted to hire me to cover the southern half of the county. I guess they were used to people working just to see their name in print. Their offer barely covered the cost of gas. And while I assume they are doing slightly better now, a decade ago when I was working on different campaigns, the joke used to be that people had a choice, use their journalism degree and work for the TS or go for the higher paying job at McDonalds.

    1. Lol Allan. That is a new and better one than the sub standard joke every one tells.
