Humboldt County in Northern California is notorious for its marijuana production, so it comes as no surprise that Humboldt Distillery would cater to the locals and infuse its vodka with cannabis sativa.
Although it is possible to infuse alcohol with marijuana and get high ( it's called "Green Dragon" and will get you ripped), the new vodka called Humboldt's Finest is not your uncle's closet brew.
Sticking to California law, Humboldt Distillery uses legally-grown hemp, which must have a "THC content of less than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis," according to a press release from the company. Although this isn't enough THC to get you high, the 40% alcohol will surely get you drunk.
So if it's not going to get you stoned, why infuse the vodka at all? Well Humboldt Distillery owner and head distiller, Abe Stevens explains that "It does, however, retain an herbal and aromatic quality reminiscent of fresh cannabis, and we’ve found it works very well in place of gin, giving classic cocktails a fresh new spin."
Stevens credits the locals to coming up with the inspiration for the weed vodka.
