"Deacon Weber had called and the priest was covered in blood"

EPD Dispatch called Officer Ben Omey the morning of Jan 1, 2014 and told him that "Deacon Weber had called and the priest was covered in blood."

When Officer Omey went into the house, he smelled a "strong odor of natural gas." He asked Deacon Weber where the gas could be coming from and was directed to the kitchen. "I saw the stove. The front right burner was lit. I saw the cigar sitting on top of the right burner." Officer Omey removed the cigar and put it on the kitchen counter. He checked to see and none of the other burners were lit.

Officer Omey opened a window above the sink and a door to air the kitchen. He let fire personnel and EMT in and for about an hour, maintained a log of everyone who entered and exited the rectory. He went back on patrol. The next door he was security outside the rectory.

Officer Omey identified photos that the jury saw of the cigar, the burner and ashes near the burner.

Testimony ended today with Mr. Todd Wilcox, who since last August works for HCSO part-time, but was an EPD Detective and senior evidence technician in 2014.

He testified about a wooden gate in front of the rectory, on the other side of the pathway, that leads to a back area where pipes were found. The hinges on the wooden gate were broken. Photos of the broken window through which Bullock gained entry into the rectory and another photo from inside the house looking into that room with glass fragments on the floor and window sill.  The window had been broken into from outside. A furnace filter had been placed blocking that window and this is how it was when police arrived. Photos of paint chips and a broken cell phone part were also identified by Mr. Wilcox. His testimony will continue tomorrow morning.
