Resident whose apartment was damaged by the explosion at Del Norte and E yesterday's claims to have no clue, EPD and Fire Department still investigating

I spoke with Battalion Chief Kent Hulbert just now about the explosion at the apartments located at Del Norte and E streets yesterday. He said EPD is still investigating the alleged "criminal part" of the explosion and the Fire Department is still investigating the "explosion part."

It is suspected that the explosion was caused by "hash manufacturing on a small scale." There was damage to the bathroom, three windows were blown out and the door was blown off the hinges.

The apartment faced E street. Battalion Chief Hulbert said that the explosion was contained to that one apartment, however all the tenants heard it and people across the street.

The resident was the only person inside and claimed no knowledge regarding the explosion. The two people that fled are allegedly acquaintances of the resident.

Strange to see photos of a place you lived at have a hash lab explosion

I recognized the apartments on Del Norte and E street where the alleged hash lab explosion happened today.

I lived in that apartment complex two years ago for a while. Never any problems of any sort.

I contacted the owner, former Eureka City Councilmember Chet Albin who confirmed my suspicions. He confirmed this is the first time there has ever been any issue in these apartments since he took over.

In fact, there were no issues ever in the surounding area when I lived there. I feel for the other tenants and neighbors.

Mr. Albin told me that,  "The City is working to limit or prevent the sale of butane in the city to help landlords prevent this type of event. "
