Patrick Higgins or Susan Rotwein? Which 5th District candidate's plan for the next four years will actually results in jobs for the community?

Patrick Higgin's candidate statement:

As your 5th District representative on the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District Commission for the past eight years, my priorities have been the District’s fiscal health, job creation, maintaining the health of Humboldt Bay, and North Coast marine conservation.

During my terms I have twice chaired the District’s Economic Development Committee, identifying options for economic diversification and improving collaboration with the private sector.

As your Harbor Commissioner, I have helped:

Bring the District from the brink of bankruptcy to solvency
Expand the aquaculture industry and create dozens of good jobs
Obtain, clean up and convert the Samoa pulp mill for economic development,
Expand infrastructure for the fishing industry and
Obtain grant resources for projects important to the community

I helped our District and governments of the North Coast respond to the Marine Life Protection Act in a way that maintains our vital sport and commercial fisheries while meeting essential conservation objectives.

If you elect me, over the next 4 years I will ensure that our Harbor District leads the community in coping with seal level rise, and continues to work for expanded public access and development of a trail system along the shore of Humboldt Bay. HigginsforHarbor.org

Susan Rotwein's candidate statement:

As your Commissioner, I’ll dedicate myself to working with the Board to make job-creation strategies its highest priority - such as keeping our harbor dredged deep for ships; creating the most efficient mix of transportation modes; and restoring the fishing fleet infrastructure by working with the private sector to build a new cold-storage and ice plant. This will create more District revenues which will fund more conservation and recreation programs.

I’ll ensure that the Board’s work is transparent, improve communication and encourage citizen input.

Qualification: District resident since 1981; owner/manager of a retail/wholesale seafood business and commercial fishing boat. Former Trinidad Planning Commissioner and City Council.
