Jason Warren pretrial hearing continued due to court oopsie moment

September 16, a pre -trial hearing was scheduled in Courtroom 4 at 2 p.m. for the Jason Warren case. Judge Timothy Cissna has been assigned the case. It has been continued to 3 p.m. tomorrow.

These kind of  oopsie moments are not news to the attorneys or the Judges but they are more obvious recently in court and I am glad my media colleagues are around to observe these snafus.

Of course, these changes are often due to last minute decisions by the Judges or attorneys.

Judge Cissna who returned from vacation acted promptly and sent an email asking for it to be rescheduled. Will Houston from the TS, Paul Mann from MRU and I were just as surprised as Warren's attorney Mr. Glenn Brown in court about this change. It must have got lost somewhere in the efficient court  communication system.

Could these oopsies be a possible result of the changes under the tenure of ex CEO Kerri Keenan? Inquiring minds would like to know but like the sudden departure of Ms. Keenan, the answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind.

Mr. Brown requested that Warren's presence be waived for tomorrow's hearing. Judge Cissna said he would address that issue tomorrow. Warren has been a no show for the past 3 hearings. Mr. Brown also requested that the pretrial hearing be at 3 p.m.

While that may be convenient for Mr. Brown, 3 p.m. the courtroom is closed for intervention, this only in Humboldt.

In a high profile case that has changes constantly and a gag order.

In the Bullock case, Judge Feeney was not back from vacation, he postponed the pretrial for a week, then proceeds to have a closed courtroom discussion with attorneys. Again high profile case, gag order. When I asked the attorneys for dates and Will and Ryan Burns were waiting with me, Mr. Cockrum, Bullock's attorney said ask the clerk. Which I did but had to wait around.

You are allowed to give dates even if there is a gag order. Now there is a special set again for the next hearing at 3 p.m. A jury trial is scheduled for October 13 but no information yet whether the evaluation found Bullock guilty by insanity. There was no hearing for 6 months, it is almost two years since Fr. Eric was killed.

There have been at least two instances where family members found out about cases and last minute changes in schedule reading my blog and in one case barely made it to court. That is how ridiculous these last minute changes are.

Someone needs to remind the Judges and certain lawyers, both who get paid by taxpayers, that they don't get to do whatever they want without transparency. Lately, these special requests and changes have been too many and they are disrespectful to family members and loved ones of victims.

Judge Hinrichs and Judge Miles are far more respectful of the public. Judge Cissna has been the same, in most instances. Judge Feeney has been following this pattern for months now in the Bullock case.
