Ferrer's connection to Limmie Curry, aggressive punk music and a statement from Ferrer's grandmother that "he put his head down and rammed him", she denied but then was played on audio

Today, the defense rested their case and after calling two witnesses, so did the People. Continuing his cross of Juan Ferrer today, DDA Roger Rees tried to question Ferrer about his friendship and conversation with Limmie Curry, who plead guilty to the murder of William Reid, earlier this year.

Ferrer acknowledged that Curry was one of the people that reached out to him in jail and that he knew that he had gone to prison. DDA Rees then asked Ferrer, "for killing a person?" Ferrer said he did not know why, just that Curry "took a plea.". DDA Rees asked him again, "A plea for manslaughter, for killing someone." Ferrer's attorney Mr. Marek Reavis objected at this point, they approached the Judge and DDA Rees tried to get Ferrer to answer the question but then dropped that line of questioning.

Mr. Reavis briefly questioned Ferrer about a vest that was entered in evidence later by the People. It was not the vest Ferrer was wearing that night but similar. Ferrer said that while the symbols on the vest were associated with "aggressive music", "Cress punk" but that the lyrics were "anti-sexiusm, anti-homophobiua."

Ferrer's grandmother, Patricia Hall, was the next defense witness. On direct, Mr. Reavis questioned her and she said that "one night in November, Joey came home late and told her that there had been a scuffle." She said that Ferrer told her that he wanted to go back and check on the guy but that she blocked him from leaving by standing in front of the door and told him she did not want him to go back at the scene of the "scuffle."

On cross, she told Mr. Rees that "all three" were upset and that after Sophie Rocheleau and Nicholas Stoiber went home, Ferrer went back to check on the guy and the man was not there. She said that "Joey never told her he stabbed someone." She was very hostile to DDA Roger Rees and defensive in her responses. She denied telling Detective Chris Ortega that Ferrer told her that bthis skinhead guy was harassing them and "calling one a fag and the girl fat." She also denied a statement "he put his head down and rammed him."

Hall said that "Joey called her every day" during his San Francisco trip "asking if anything was in the newspaper."

The jury then heard two audio recordings of excerpts of Hall talking with Detective Ortega where she made those statements. Even after hearing her own voice, she denied making those statements.

As she was walking out of the courtroom, she said in the presence of the jury, "I wish my grandson could be with me right now."

Then Ferrer was recalled to the stand by Mr. Reavis. He said he could not remember specifics of what he told his grandmother and that he does not recall telling her that he went back. He told Mr. Reavis that due to his grandmother's detiorating mental health, she has been forgetful and says inaccurate things.

DDA Rees on cross, asked a question, "Isn't it nice that you can hear all the testimony and respond to that?" Mr. Reavis objected.

The defense rested it's case.
